The Soundtrack to Blog World: Road Trip from Vegas to LA with MissDestructo and Audi

This is my first trip to Las Vegas and it’s tied together with my first major social media/blogging conference. I don’t think I can understate the amount of gravity this trip has on my career progression. Where I see myself a year, two years, five years from now is exactly this. It is about embracing the possible and making it happen, the carpe diem mentality. I do want to be successful in my career, but successful in specifically what I love doing: which is engaging with people, making connections, establishing rapport, and using social media to benefit the overall human condition. Big goal, eh? This rarely happens in one’s life, where the convergence of opportunities comes in the shape of trips to Las Vegas and Los Angeles with someone as significantly influential as Amber Osborne (@MissDestructo).

If this trip was a Hollywood movie plot, it would mainly resemble the “Fish Out of Water” narrative. I guess it is like “Training Day” but with less drugs. And no Russians. And Denzel Washington’s character will be played by a tall, blue-haired vixen. Aside from those minor details, it’s going to be exactly like “Training Day.” (And half of the movie would be in Vegas).

Ethan Hawke thinks it's funny

Ethan Hawke, don't laugh at my metaphor

The uniqueness of this trip requires an equally unique soundtrack to accompany the range of characteristics this trip embodies to me: celebrity, salience, irreverence, spirited youthfulness, and just plain EPIC-ness. Thus, I have created a playlist contributed by myself, MissDestructo, Nathan Fillion, and a few others (it’s still growing). Here’s what we have so far:

  1. Beautiful People – Chris Brown feat. Benny Benassi
  2. Ghosts N’ Stuff – Deadmau5
  3. Genesis – Justice
  4. Road to Nowhere – Talking Heads
  5. Elements of Life – DJ TiĆ«sto
  6. Paradigm Shift – Liquid Tension Experiment
  7. Acid Rain – Dream Theater
  8. Clubbed to Death – Rob Dougan
  9. LA Woman – The Doors
  10. The Impression That I Get – Mighty Mighty Bosstones

It’s comprised of a really wide range of songs, each of which has some meaning to its choosing (obviously). From Dance, Alternative, Rock, Ska, and Classic Rock, to contemporary obscure songs, we’re going to test all the speakers that our car has to offer. And from the specifications I saw on it, holy crapple, it’s going to be LOUD. We will continue to add more songs in future posts of this playlist.

The drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, according to Google Maps, is 266 miles. That makes it at least 4 and a half hours of driving time. And going across the Mojave Desert? Yeah, we need some music for this trip. I know what you’re thinking, too: “Nate, you and Amber are driving through one of the best National Parks in the US! You don’t need to listen to music when you have the majesty of Nature to look at the entire way.”

*Buzz* Wrong answer. This trip is going to be EPIC. Starting in Vegas and ending up in LA, we are going to be traveling in style. We will have some pictures up from the initial arrival, and literally you will see what we see when we see it! Please be sure to follow @MissDestructo and @nbrown10 on Twitter and check out the YouTube page for video.

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas interior

Pretty swanky, huh?

In Vegas, we are staying at The Cosmopolitan (which is the coolest hotel I’ve ever seen).

As far as I can discern from their commercial, I can’t expect anything than the unexpected. The stage is set for a trip I have not really taken the risk to do, although Amber is pretty accustomed to these fancy trips. Coinciding with the stay in Vegas is the SEMA Auto show, which is the largest auto accessories show in the world and the second largest event to be held annually in Las Vegas. Follow the hashtag #SEMA along with #Audi for many of our content. Why Audi, you ask?

Oh, we’re driving a little thing called AN AUDI A7!!!

I can’t wait for you to be a part of this trip! We will have a custom hashtag for you to follow once Amber gets back from Amsterdam. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
